The Developmental Edge

Some Differences You Have To Experience for Yourself.
This Is One of Them.

What Happens When You Go Through It

Most people who go through the Public Developmental Sprint® arrive as evaluators. They leave as advocates.

They come thinking about their organization or their clients. They leave with something they didn’t expect: a firsthand sense of what leadership development feels like when it produces adaptive change in weeks, not months, and a clear view of what the Sprint can do for the teams and organizations they lead or serve.

Over four focused weeks, you work on a real leadership challenge using the Immunity to Change® framework, developed by Harvard faculty Robert Kegan and Lisa Lahey, co-founders of TDE, adapted into a Sprint-based process by fellow co-founders Andy Fleming and Claire Lee. The Public Sprint is 100% virtual and anchored by two highly interactive workshops: a Launch Workshop where you surface the hidden assumptions blocking your growth, and a Closing Workshop to consolidate what you’ve learned and the shifts you’ve made. In between, a small peer group supports you as you test those assumptions through live experiments, embedded in the work you’re already doing.

Most leadership development is a solo endeavor. The Sprint makes it a team sport. Because how leaders develop together, running and reflecting on real experiments in the context of real work, is how they will lead together. That last idea deserves a moment: how leaders develop together is how they will lead together. It is the insight at the center of TDE’s work and the reason organizations choose TDE when they are serious about accelerating and scaling change.

What You'll Walk Away With

For independent coaches and consultants, the Sprint offers something additional: a process you’ve lived and can bring to clients with the confidence that only comes from firsthand experience.

Most participants also come away with something they didn’t anticipate: they feel lighter. More confident in their own ability to adapt and grow, not just in this context, but in any context.

One AVP of Learning and Development called the Sprint “shockingly better.” That reaction is common. And it only comes from development that doesn’t just generate insight, but change that’s real and lasting, from the inside out.

Thousands of leaders across 75+ countries, including Google, General Mills, Uber, and the U.S. Navy, experienced the Developmental Sprint®. In one global cohort, participants reporting reliable steps to accelerate growth rose from 37% to 93%. Regular experimentation increased from 31% to 100%.

Ready to stop evaluating and start experiencing? The next cohort is forming now.

"This process is simply unparalleled in its ability to produce short-term and long-term sustained growth. It is the most effective professional and personal development I have ever been a part of."

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is a Public Developmental Sprint®?
A virtual, open-enrollment version of the Developmental Sprint® that gives individuals the opportunity to experience the process directly, even if they are not yet participating through a company-sponsored cohort.

This offering is especially useful for senior executives, CHROs, people and culture leaders, transformation leaders, and coaches or consultants who want to experience the Sprint firsthand before considering how it could accelerate broader organizational change.

The Public Developmental Sprint® gives you a direct experience of TDE’s signature method, the mindset shifts it produces, the peer dynamic, and the time commitment involved. It helps you evaluate the approach not just conceptually, but experientially.

Most leadership development focuses on individuals and sits outside real work. The Developmental Sprint combines deep insight, peer support and accountability, fast experimentation, and practical application in daily work. Instead of waiting months for impact, participants begin to see visible progress within four weeks.

Most participants report meaningful gains within the four-week Sprint cycle. That typically includes real progress on their improvement goal, significant shifts in the mindset patterns that have been holding them back, and observable gains in self-awareness, transparency, empathy, collaboration, and execution. Most also come away with greater confidence in their own ability to adapt and grow, and with relationships formed in the peer group that continue to matter long after the Sprint ends.

Choose one self-improvement goal that genuinely matters to you and would make a meaningful difference in your work and/or life right now if you made substantial progress on it. Many participants also find it helpful to ask a manager, colleague, partner, or friend what they see as their “one big thing” to work on.

No formal pre-work is required. That said, many participants have a richer experience if they spend a little time beforehand reflecting on a meaningful improvement goal.

The total time commitment is approximately 8 hours:

  • Launch Workshop: 3.5 hours
  • Closing Workshop: 1 hour
  • Weekly peer coaching: 30-60 minutes per week for the weeks in between

Yes. If you are participating with others from your organization, you can request that we place you in the same peer coaching group.

This process has been transformational on two levels: individually, we are getting feedback like ‘literally life-changing’, and this from a very skeptical crew.

Collectively, we are disrupting the whole paradigm for leadership development – from ‘here’s a great new program’ to building an ongoing culture that continually incubates capability-development.
